Every day we receive nice letters or e-mails from satisfied customers. I have listed a few of these in the training video section of my web site (they are listed along with descriptions of some of the videos we produce and sell.) In addition I have listed some along with the list of litters on litter page.

This section was just started in August of 1997 so it will grow as time passes. If I had listed them all from the beginning it could read like a guest book. Thanks to everyone that has been so kind as to express their compliments.

The testimonials listed below are just a few examples of what we hear all the time.

TESTIMONIAL:

Dear Ed,

We put our beloved Leerburg female,Val, down last week. There was no decision to make....it was time. She became paralyzed in the hind quarters and although she was in an x-pen in the kitchen next to our 5 week old Airedale litter she was getting tired.

She was "Auntie Val" to all of our litters and had the patience of a saint. She was Bruce's boon companion and the clients that he and Erik have guided in the past years all respected and appreciated her in the camps and in her ability to help track an animal that couldn't be found by the men.

One of our young hunters was very ill one night and Val, being the intuitive dog that she was, climbed up beside him and kept him warm during the night. In socializing puppies for friends she was invaluable in teaching them when and when not to hang on her tail. In some ways too patient and there were more than a few times that I had to tell her that if she really wanted to be left alone she must do more than curl her lip to them! Eventually she would. There were also the times when she would get tired of the "mere Airedales" and herd them into the kennel in the back yard; closing the gate behind them. They never knew what happened ; she would be lying under a tree watching them try to figure out just how they were 'tricked' into the kennel! We could watch her do this time and again. She was an extraordinary dog and will be missed to say the least. Always a lady and, quite frankly, the wife that Bruce always wanted. Always by his side and never questioning or doubting him.

I can't remember one minute that we were ever angry with her or not proud of her. She was a credit to her breed. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to have loved her and she us for almost 14 years.

Ed,
Good News ! The
lump on Bruno's back has disappeared. Must have been from the shot.

Two quick Funny stories:

I'm walking/socializing Bruno in downtown Gig Harbor the other day (we're talking a very small little town here) when I see a tall man, in his 50's walking/training two big dogs. He stops and watches Bruno and me for a few minutes. As I come up near him he yells out at me "Is that one of Ed Frawley's dogs?" Here in the middle of nowhere this guy recognizes one of your pups from your breedings. Turns out the guy knows you. He is a German man, in his 50's, tall, dark haired guy named Franz. He does decoy work for the police department here in Washington state. He was out training two dogs for a couple who were about to put them down. He had them prong collared up and they were behaving "real well". He said he could tell it was one of your pups by the Sable color. Anyway, it was pretty strange to have this guy ask me if Bruno was from Leerburg.

Second story. We're walking Bruno around a shopping center letting him
go up and check all the people out. This old couple in their 70's comes up to see Bruno .... and the first question they ask (just like everyone else does) is .."Why is his ear Green? " So I reply ... It's from his Tattoo. They almost go into shock and say ..." Oh my God .. people are now tattooing their dogs ? ... first it's kids .... now it's pets ?????" Anyway, Bruno is doing Great. He goes to the vet this Saturday for a check up and shots. I'll have him do the Lymes shots as you advised. Bruno is a very calm and confident pup. He has extreme Prey drive. Very Good food drive too. His nose is always to the ground. Doing Imprinting now. He's understanding the Sitz, Platz, Sook and Come commands. Doing some 10 step tracking with Turkey dogs. He's biting the towel or Jute on a string with a full mouth bite, and grips like an alligator. He's coming along on the retrieve with both a ball and a small dumbbell. He could care less about the loud crack of the whip or the report of a .22 starter gun. He likes riding in the 4 Runner and has no problem being in a crate or in our 6'x 6' Kennel. We've been taking him everywhere we go, including on our boat for a three hour cruise the other day. He has pasted all of your puppy tests with Flying Colors. His Sable coloring is Gorgeous, both of his ears are already up, he's getting real muscular as he grows, looks like he's going to have a nice head and he has big, beautiful, intelligent Brown eyes. Seems Nelly throws some Really Great pups.

Ed, MANY, MANY THANKS for this Excellent Pup !!
Take Care,
Tom Miller

Hi Ed!!

Just thought I'd drop you a line and let you know the results of Dillon's first vet visit. First off, I know I am going to have to find a different vet. I find his knowledge lacking or absent about GS working bloodlines and puppies in general. I am quite disgusted with the man.

First off, Dillon weighs in at 21 pounds at nine weeks of age. He admonished me by telling me he was a little on the thin side and should be more filled out in the flanks. I explained to the man that Dillon was not to thin, he eats 2 cups of Eukabana puppy food twice a day and probably drinks 2 gallons of water a day besides.

Then he was very upset that his ears aren't up yet. He told me that all the calcium he is going to have deposited in his ears will be there by the time he is twelve weeks old and if they are not up by then they will never be. His right ear is almost up and the left ear is starting the upwards transition. He said he'd never be a "show dog" if his ears aren't up by 12 weeks. I tried to explain to him that No. 1 Dillon wasn't a show dog but a working dog, and No. 2, I felt no cause to be alarmed by the fact that his ears are not up yet. Then he went on and on about those ears not being up and how if they don't go up they could be more prone to infection and since Dillon is a GS he will be aggressive and he doesn't like working on the ears of aggressive dogs.

I told him not to worry that Dillon was going to be a schutzhund dog, obedient and self-confident and he would have nothing to fear. I had a hard time maintaining a professional demeanor with the man. Other then that, he thought Dillon was very well put together, with a beautiful coat and minded me very well. He got his DHLP shot and a heartworm tablet, his stool sample was negative for para sites and both testicles are dropped. He would not however give me calcium tablets. Guess I'm going to have to take Dillon to my horse vet in Neenah.

On Saturday Dillon is going for his first session at the Fox Valley Police and Schutzhund Club. Deb Karnsh the trainer has recently had rotater cuff surgery so the club hasn't been meeting for two weeks. She is very anxious to meet Dillon. She uses the "click and treat" method. I told her that he sits, comes, downs, retrieves, etc. all with a little piece of turkey hot dog for reward at this time. I've been studying the theroy behind it and anxious to see how it works, I'm being open minded. I'm really anxious for the tracking part.

Well I guess I'd better stop babbling on and on here, Ed, I totally love this pup, although I'm not getting as much sleep, my house work is getting behind and my cat is losing some weight, we are totally happy and enjoying every minute of our time together. He is also house broke wonderfully well and only gives my kitchen floor a washing once a day by jumping in his water dish, we play a lot of ball, packen the towel, and go on a lot of 15 min. walks. He is so friendly to everyone too. So you have a very satisfied customer here!!

Respectfully,
Wendy Wied and Dillon the Destroyer

'Morning Folks,

"Z" is doing terrific. As I mentioned before, since her arrival at 8 weeks until she was 16 weeks all we did was imprint her instinct to bite. We also did serious socialization. i.e. Mornings and afternoons at the local grammar school, kids, moms, dads (and their dogs) loving her up and giving her treats. I can't begin to tell you how beneficial this has become. It was well worth the time spent. I encourage everyone to do this.

Now we are learning discretion. We walk together, -but now, she is not allowed to greet everyone she meets. Adults and teens need to get the "at ease" command from me before she greets them. Children are basically all good, so I never want her to be wary.

In public everyone says what a well behaved, mellow dog she is.She redefines the example of a good citizen. As soon as she reaches our property, she turns into Wild Child. Yesterday, Z sprung from a sitting position and grabbed my grown daughters hair bun (Z's favorite toy) pulled her to the ground and started dragging her across the floor. Don't get the wrong idea, this is tolerated here, we allow all the rough play she wants "here", not in the streets where someone could get hurt.

Next week we start w/ a formal agitator. He's titled several SchH dogs and has a good local reputation. I'm in no rush and competing w/ no one so pressure to title is not a big issue. As I mentioned to Jeri Ann during puppy selection, looks are unimportant, color is unimportant, I want temperament. We'll continue to work on prey drive until she's emotionally equipped for defense. We covered as many bases as I could think of at as young an age as possible, gunfire, whip, schlager stick... while out for casual walks, she accepts these w/ total indifference.

Hi Ed:

Just a note to let you know that I'm going as an observer to my first Schutzhund trial tomorrow, and I'm sooo excited to see the dogs and handlers work together.

We have joined a club, and Erik is just getting raves from both the training director and his helpers. Actually, Erik's doing better than we are. The training director and helpers keep telling us things such as "he's got great balance,” “he is very clear when on the sleeve,” “good solid grip - he swallows on and on.” We know that these are "good" things, but don't really understand WHY these are good things. Our training director is focused on the dog and the training, but not that good explaining to us the significance of why what Erik is doing is a “good thing.”

I think that they know this stuff so well, that what they may consider a "no brainer" is still a new concept to us. I've mentioned this to the Training Director, and he's trying to explain more to us, but he is more of a trainer than an explainer. The other members (and helpers) are a bit more forthcoming with explanations, and that is a great help. One of the helpers (who takes more time explaining things to us) told us "I know a lot of people who would LOVE to have a dog this good" and "why is it that the beginners always get the great dogs?" I really hate hearing these things! :-)

Anyway, thanks so much for a very, very cool dog. Probably the ONE thing that we've done right is socialize Erik. He's just super friendly; I just have to watch to make sure he doesn't knock over kids with his head or tail. I still take him to work a lot, and we just think up things to expose him to. John had him out at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway for testing - a car crashed right in front of them, and Erik was just non-plussed. I swear you could shoot off a cannon right by him, and he would be unaffected. Thanks also for the encouragement to try Schutzhund. Erik just takes to it so well.

I just wish I would have read your article "How to Raise a Hard Puppy" sooner. Your copyright is 1999, but I just saw it about 6 weeks ago. Made a lot of things come into focus. Erik can be a pain in the ass sometimes, too.

My goal is to get our "B" this fall (still overwhelming to me) and try for Sch I next year. I'm sure the biggest problem Erik will have is having his Mommy keep up with him.

Best regards, and again, thanks for a really great dog.

I'm writing to praise you for an outstanding job on all of the video's I have purchased so far. I was using a blend of my own style with the Dildei method. I will always use parts of the Dildei method unless I run into any real problems with it, but when I got the Competitive Heeling tape it changed how I start puppies, probably for good. Your tracking tape are EXCELLENT. You really know your stuff. I've been training professionally for about six years but I'm new to Schutzhund, and other dog sports. My biggest problem has always been the send away. I'm sure it won't be a problem in about seven to ten working days, huh!!! Anyhow I will continue to recommend your training tapes to anyone interested in dog training of any kind, including my clients, don't worry I make them buy their own!!

To Mr Ed Frawley and Staff:

Ed, I've ordered six of your training videos, and I can say "Wow"! Your products are terrific. There is so much good information in the videos. The videos are explained in a simple logical manner, excellent for either a novice or expert trainer.

I paid tuition of $3500.00 to attend a school for dog trainers back in 1997. Despite all of my efforts to try to understand the details of the "How and Why" of protection training methods, I still came away with my thirst for knowledge unsatisfied. I was left with only a fuzzy idea of the training concepts, methods and individual steps used in this training. Since that time I've invested a lot of my time observing various training, handling methods, and studied any and all information I could find on the subject.

Your videos and website articles have really put the subject all together for me and have given me the true understanding of the methods of training and more importantly, the reasoning behind each action taken, and the understanding of the dogs perceptions of the world.

We're in Colorado and let Ed pick the pup for us. We have absolutely no problems with his choice.

He wants a letter describing what you want in a dog. I think the key for us was that we were very detailed with what we wanted.

We told him about what our house and yard was like, what our other dog was like(age, sex, disposition, breed, how she was trained), our training experience, what we wanted the dog for (SAR Airscent/avalanche), how much we were home, additional goals for the dog (obedience). In other words, we gave him excruciating detail (as I've just demonstrated!).

Ed has always responded to my emails within a day and he's very candid. Before we made the decision to purchase, we talked to him and Jeri Ann on the phone.

You're making a huge investment, so don't hesitate calling and talking to them.

Dear Ed Frawley,

I was in shock to see that you where quitting your breeding program. I along with hundreds of other GSD lovers will feel a great loss. I wanted a Leerburg puppy for years. I was fortunate to be able to accomplish this in October of 98, when I received my first Leerburg puppy. There are many good breeders out there with good bloodlines. But being a great breeder to me means more than just putting a litter of puppies on the ground. Not every dog is right for every person Xanther Vom Leerburg (call name Bruno) is perfect for me, thanks to you. You have the knack for picking out the right dog for the right person. Also the breeder you are knows there is certain amount work that needs to done with these puppies before eight weeks of age to give them a head start. I could go on and on, But I know you are going to be getting hundreds and hundreds of these same type of letters. I sure wish I was a place in my life that I was able to obtain one of your brood bitch's . The people who are able to purchase one can consider themselves very fortunate. I am happy to hear you are keeping your aces in the hole. Maybe one day you will change your mind.

Best wishes,
Martha Cole

Hi Ed

We are fine and doing well down here. Sam has turned out to be a shining example of your breeding program. This (Orfey & Tessa pup of 07/22/1996) is the most wonderful friend anyone could have. His natural abilities of protection and drive are nothing short of remarkable. One day at Sch. training a Doberman got away from the owner and ran straight for Sam on who was on a long down. This dog wasn't aggressive but it was stepping all over Sam. The owner of the Doberman was afraid to get her dog, so (Carla) our trainer did so for her. Carla, praised Sam for not taking the Dobermans head off, AND NOT breaking the long down! The people on the side lines were very impressed. A visiting Trainer from the Netherlands walked over knelt down and patted Sam on the head saying " You are a very Good Boy!" Needless to say I was so proud of him. We have come a long way since the incident of a year 1/2 ago. I'm still a little shy of going into large crowds with him, but this isn't Sam's fault, its mine. Again Ed, thank you for breeding such a wonderful dog. I see you have retired Tessa! I'm looking at Ida as a possible for my next pup from you; however this will down the road a bit. Sam wanted to show you how versatile his training has been.

Sincerely
Suzanne Wright and Sam

Hi Ed,

Just wanted to keep you updated on Lektra (7/6/96 - Peggy/Wolf daughter). I just received my Front and Finish which includes both the Delaney and First & Foremost statistics for the first half of 1999. Since Lektra just showed in novice during that time period, she is not eligible for the First & Foremost rankings. However, she did claim the #10 spot for GSDs on the Delaney System with 116 points. You probably know that in Delaney points, the dog must place and one point is given for each dog beaten. Lektra earned 123 points (by my calculations) in her Open A trials so I hope that combined with her novice points she will still be ranked in the top ten at the end of 1999. She is always #1 in my heart.

I know, I know, I still owe you a picture of the two of us for your website. I haven't forgotten; I just haven't taken the time to do it. The Moto Photo film developing places here in town are doing an SPCA promotion right now so I am going to sign up for a sitting. Our utility work is coming along nicely. Hopefully we will be ready late March when the shows start up around here. If not, that is okay. We will be ready when we are ready and not before. We are showing in the UKC trials here in Tulsa in January in order to earn her U-CDX. We will be showing in Open B where the competition is a lot tougher, so I don't know whether or not we will place. Depends on whether or not she nails her fronts and finishes.

Have a Happy New Year/New Millennium

I was attempting to send you an email regarding my two dogs, both of whom I bought from you. I'm sure you remember Isar v. Leerburg(Natan/Queen). Isar injured his back a year ago during a trial. He slipped off the A frame and he took the whole year off. I took him to a chiropractor/acupuncturist and now he's working again. I'm very happy because he's only 5 and 2xs Sch III.

I really wanted to tell you about my bitch Josie v. Leerburg (Otis/Nellie). She'll be two in March and I'm just having a blast training her. I'm still training her with Randy Rhodes and he's become a big Otis fan due to her and her half brother Uli (Karla Garcia's dog). She is a SUPER tracker. I've never owned a puppy who loves tracking like she does. She attacks me if I don't get her to the track fast enough and yet becomes calm and focused on the track.

Randy's doing a great job on her bite work. She's super high in prey drive and very tough. Randy did some work up on the table to balance out her drives and now she's very focused on the man. Her nerves are excellent.

Obedience is my challenge because she's very independent and has no problem nailing me for the toy. But she handles correction very well and has the drive and energy to work forever. Her send-out is awesome.

Anyway, I just wanted you to know how pleased I am with her. I should have her ready for her B in the Spring and her I in the Fall. Have a Happy New Year and I'll keep in touch.

Sincerely,
Joan Harris

Greetings Ed and staff,

Rene (Derby-Rabiat daughter) is doing well at 5 1/2 mos. Still lots of teeth coming out so we have slacked on the bite work for now. We are doing straight line tracking in the evenings when the wind settles down and Rene does well on long tracks of 50 - 75 yards. I still have to hold on tight to the lead because she pulls like a train when on the scent. We are trying to break this game of jump on the couch, take the toe pinch, and jump on the couch again. This just recently came up and I think it is just a juvenile "I'll show you" stage compounded by her fussy teething. I pinch very hard and the discomfort is audible but there appears to be another reinforcement there somewhere. (She is touched, petted, and loved all the time so it is not like the pinching is the only physical contact she has with her handler(s).

I continue to be amazed with her confidence in new environments and situations. She is incredibly bright and learns quickly. Thanks for letting me brag!

Best wishes,
Dave Hullinger and family.

December 19, 1999

My name is Bobbi Jo Petty and I purchased a Dakota/Otis female from you almost a year ago. Her registered name is Alexa von Leerburg, but I call her Asa. She has been absolutely wonderful for the most part. I had to beg for her because you thought she would be a lot of dog for someone who hasn't trained a Sch. dog before. She has been the biggest baby since day one. I don't think that she knows how to bark. She is perfect with my children though. My 2 year old likes to try to ride her and pulls her ears. She sat on her earlier tonight and Asa couldn't even bat an eye. When my 4 month old sons start crying it really upsets her and she has to go check them out. She is the only dog that I have ever owned that I can trust around my daughter or any child. My daughter is forever going into her crate with her. Just the other night I found my daughter sitting next to Asa sharing her (Asa's) food with her.

Thanks again for such a wonderful friend. (She doesn't have to be aggressive, she looks mean enough that no one will mess with us.)

Thanks,
Bobbi Jo

Dear Ed,

Just a note to let you know how "Gita" is doing. We just finished a 6 week course at Canada West Canine Center which included basic obedience, advanced, utility, tracking, narcotics detection and protection work. Gita did not have to do any of the jumps or the protection work as she is just 6 months old but she sure would like to have done it. She did the best of the five dogs in tracking through drive and finished doing a 25 minute old track, 3/4 mile long with 2 articles and 3 ninety degree corners. She did well in obedience but is starting to show her stuff now and I expect to have my hands full in the months to come. She loves to track and wanted to find the quarry whether it was her turn or not. I am amazed at how she is growing and maturing and if preliminary actions count, she will do just as well at personal protection when she is older. The instructor was thrilled with her and told me I "lucked out." I don't think it was a matter of luck. Thank you for choosing her for me. I will let you know how she makes out as she grows.

Hello Ed & Jeri Ann,

Just thought I'd drop you another line on how my pup is doing. I have had her now for two weeks. I called her "GRET" short for Gretta. She is a sable, Hanna & Otis pup, you sent to Nova Scotia , Canada.

Since the day that I received her she was house broken!! I couldn't believe it! She hasn't had a mistake yet in the house, she will whimper if she has to go out, and soon as she hits that grass ....Bingo!She sleep through the whole night in her crate with out waking up, I am so impressed!

As for her personality, she is wonderful. She has no fear, love to investigate everything. I have her retrieving tennis balls and bringing it back to me already, she loves that game! Also got her started on a schutzhund leg for pups, that is one of her favorite toys, her bite grip is amazing! She has encountered so much socialization in the past two weeks, I've had her everywhere! I can't thank you enough for her. Gret and I are going to have so much fun working together, she is a amazing pup! I can't wait until Bob Ottenbrite gets his little male pup next week. He's hoping his will be as good as mine! Thank you again for "GRET", and I will keep in touch and let you know how she does as she grows up.

Dear Mr. Frawley

After ordering several of your training tapes, various pieces of equipment and spending yours surfing your web site, as a consumer I thought its important to write you.

Your videos have been an excellent supplement to my training. Often, in the midst of working my dog, question I want to ask my trainer slip my mind. I have an exceptional trainer/helper, but since I am a novice handler I don't always fully understand certain terms, or perhaps I've never seen a particular thing done before. If there are several dogs working that day, I try to save a question until later, then in the busyness, the question never gets asked. I have a solution.

I go home, pop in a video, and it helps me to process all the information I just worked thought in training. You break things down to a level where it's sample for a novice to understand; yet you certainly don't speak down to your audience - very important!

Novices get enough of that. I appreciate that you haven't forgotten that "novice" implies beginner, we haven't learned yet. It doesn't mean we are incapable of understanding. Thanks.

On the your phone staff/secretaries, they are gems! They are quick to follow up on phones calls, check on orders, or answer questions. They are always professional courteous and friendly.

There's more to say about your web site than I can fit into a letter, so I will leave it at saying "The Best". I've spent countless hours surfing GSD sites of all kinds - none compare.

Sincerely,
Jody Desroches

Dear Ed and Jeri Ann,

Just a quick update on the male pup you sent me...He is wonderful! I could go on and on to the point of boring you but he's the best pup I have had in my life and that is quite a few dogs! He is so intelligent it will be a bit of a challenge not to bore him- he learns almost anything in two or three tries. He is totally calm around everything - fireworks, power saws, babies, cats, horses, etc. etc, and then is full of excitement chasing balls and toys. He now weighs 30 lbs. and is beautiful - his adult coat is just starting to come in. His ears are up perfectly!

We are going to Kevin Sheldahl's schutzhund club this Sunday. He's had two more shots and should be in good shape.

Well ...I'll send you a photo when he (call name-Berk) is a bit older and keep you posted on his progress. Thanks for the great contribution you are all making to the GSD breed. I rave about you to everyone who admires the pup. He goes to work with me every day and meets lots of selected people.

Warmest thanks,

Ed,

Just an update on the Orphey pup we got June 3rd. We call her Cali, short for Calamity. In summary, she is just as you represented. We are crazy about her.She goes everywhere with us and is welcoming to everyone she meets. She went to a street fair a few weeks ago with thousands of people walking up and down and literally lead me through the crowd. She enjoys the prey games and has a very confident disposition. She now wants to please and has pretty much stopped the problematical biting although she is not teathing yet.

She got worms last week which the vet treated with one large pill. I showed her your video of the nail clipping but she doesn't get it. I'd like to be able to take care of her nails but it's pretty tough to get her to stop screaming bloody murder. The soap formula you suggested worked very well. Her next bath and squirming session is coming up. Also, the turkey dog sits, downs, and comes works great. She is coming along very well.

Best Regards,
Lloyd Strobel

Hi Ed,

I received my pup (Puma V. Leerburg) yesterday 6-17-98. After spending most of the day traveling in the crate we finally got him around 6:pm. he was in incredible condition. Very happy, alert and in a dry crate. We were all very surprised to see the pray drive on the pup after so many hours of travel. We brought him home and it was as if he's been here all his life, we play with him with a tennis ball on a string and he took to it right away later on I threw him a bumper and again he took it with a full mouth grip. We are all very happy with the pup and we appreciate you and your staff for such a wonderful job of picking out this pup for our family. As the puppy grows we will update you on the progress.

Again thank you for everything.
