Many members on my web board have been kind enough to send care packages to members of my son's platoon who are stationed on a firebase at 8000 feet in the mountains of Afghansitan on the Pakistan border.

For those new memebers my son Jeff is a paratrooper. He is 22 year old Sgt in the 82nd Airborne. As he likes to say - he is infinty and "in the line." That means there isnt anyone further out than they are.

Jeff came home last month for his 18 days mid-cycle R&R. He left a little over a week ago. He brought about 1700 photos and some videos home. I am posting one of the videos of his old firebase - Bruin.

Bruin no longer exists so there is no security issue here. Jeff's platton along with a platoon of Artillary aslo from the 82nd airborne manned the firebase for months last winter. Shortly after they left it was dismantaled and there is nothing there now.

Bruin was a nasty palce - Jeff went 4 weeks one time without a shower because they had no hot water and no indoor shower facility (youll see it in this video). They also had no food. That is to say their cook had no food. So for the months they were there they ate MRE's almost the entire time.

I took the liberty to spice the video up a little with some additional graphics. I take no claim for the content though - just maybe a few laughs. One of the artillary soldiers (whose name I do not know) put most of this together.

You can view it at: http://www.leerburg.com/bruin.htm

Emjoy - and don't forget to thank every soldier you see for the service to his country. Trust me every single one of them appreciate it.

Couldn't have said it better.....thanks for sharing Ed, that was great. It made me break out the videos of my nephew while he was in Iraq for a year with the Marines.

God Bless every man and woman fighting for our country.....they have my utmost respect and I pray for them everyday!!!

Ed, nothing thrills me more than our military and watching this video just upped the thrill level. I'm so dag gum proud of our soldiers. They're able to find humor and be funny, creative, resourceful and kind in the midst of war and being in a hell hole. They not only took that place in stride, they fix it up and laugh at it, and get us to laugh with them. They know how to relax and they know how to fight. What beautiful morale.

Words are failing me, and it's hard to express what I felt watching that video. Just tell your son he's a cool, strong American, as are the guys there with him. That's what Americans look like.

Bravo guys!!! You make us so proud to be in the same country you serve. Thank you for that.

And prisoners here have the cajones to bitch about conditions in the jail. Thanks Ed.

Neat video Ed, one of my friends just got back from "the sandbox" as they like to put it. I see that it comes by that name honestly.

Thanks for posting this. It is humbling. So many people sit an their a**es and bitch while these Hero's are putting their lives on the line so we have the freedom so that they can. I try to remember all of our Hero's all over the world on my prayers. Hope your son comes home safe, and soon.

It was interesting to see how these soliders live out in the desert. I think they need a hot shower once in a while. Thanks for sharing.

I love the basketball plays... Thanks Ed, it's nice to hear that your son gets to be home and visit, I know they are short visits but worth every seconds..
We think about our soldiers everyday...
