1988 DDR Bundessieger Show

This is an all breed DDR Schutzhund competition. A Giant Schnauzer won the competition. You will see a number of different breeds of dogs compete in this championship. You will not see the dog named Lord Gliesterecht compete. He won this competition the three previous years to this competition.
This is the second to the last DDR Schutzhund Championship. The rules were very much different than Schutzhund in the rest of the world. They were much easier for the dog then Schutzhund in the west. This had a direct result on the temperament and genetics of the breed. For years people said that the DDR dogs were so much better than those in the west. This simply was not true. This tape will show you why. If you understand even a little about temperament and drives you will see that the DDR courage test is nothing compared to the courage test in the states.

The DDR dogs had something to offer, mainly good hips, good pigment and good bone. The better DDR dogs were a result of cross border breeding with top West German dogs like Burnd Lierburg. The other side to the coin is that the DDR dogs were handler soft (as a general rule). If you are interested in the East German bloodlines, you need to see this video. It will answer a lot of questions.

If you are interested in the DDR Sieger Show, you may want to refer the video I did in 1989 in Leipzig East Germany. It’s titled The 1989 DDR Sieger Show.

If you have an interest in learning about the DDR Breed Survey, you may want to check this section out on the web site.
