This DVD is 3 hours and 18 minutes long. Over the years this video has been one of our most popular training videos for new puppy owners.
The first version of this tape was released in the late 1980's. The video has been expanded and updated several times over the years. Our current version has expanded to almost 3 1/2 hours and was completed in June 2007.
This training video answers all the questions new puppy owners have concerning the care of their new puppy. Ed Frawley has been breeding dogs since 1978 and has produced over 350 litters of working bloodline German Shepherd puppies.
Over the years Ed has been asked just about every question a new puppy owner can think to ask. This DVD was originally produced to be given to every Leerburg Puppy Customer. The intent was to help Leerburg Puppy Customers get through the first 8 months of the puppy's life.
Even though Leerburg only breeds German Shepherds, this new training video is not just for German Shepherds. It's an all-breed video. Your Puppy 8 Week to 8 Months is sold to breeders all over the country who breed many different kinds of dogs. These breeders then give the video to their puppy customers. If you are a dog breeder, call or email us for dealer pricing on this video.

The Topics Covered in this DVD on Puppy Training are:
New owners all want to train their puppy. This tape explains exactly how much your pups can learn and the proper way to train your puppy.
Puppies can only be trained through motivational training methods. This means using food, toys, and a lot of praise. We show you how to make learning a game for you and your puppy.
Often new trainers try and accomplish more than a young pup is capable of learning. This can be compared to teaching a 5 year old child college level math. Trying to push a puppy beyond its ability will kill its temperament and drive before it ever has a chance to develop. This video will show you how much to expect.
We have a saying "Just because a puppy can be trained to do something does not mean it's right to train it to do something." This DVD is going to give you the information that will tell you how to train your puppy without pushing it beyond the point that could be harmful to your pup.
While my DVD has an extensive section on how to house train your new dog it is impossible to include all of the information I would like to have included (there simply is not enough time on a DVD to do this) For that reason, in 2007 I wrote a 165 page eBook titled COMMON SENSE SOLUTIONS FOR HOUSE TRAINING PROBLEMS. This was a project that I worked on for three years. I collected years of emails from people with house training and have answered the most common problems in this book. In my opinion this is the best eBook ever written.

Review 1 for "Your Puppy 8 Weeks to 8 Months" Mr. Frawley, Allow me to thank you for providing such a comprehensive and high quality source of dog training information and equipment. After bringing home our new pack member at 8 weeks (a male GSD from very strong working lines) we found your DVD "Your Puppy 8 Weeks To 8 Months" invaluable. Since then we have purchased "Basic Dog Obedience," "Raising a Working Puppy," and "Drive-Focus-Grip" finding them all equally useful. We also use and appreciate the extremely high quality Amish leather collars and leashes, toys and grooming supplies found on your web site. The only equipment available to us locally was the standard cheap Chinese crap that we found to be so poorly designed and manufactured that it could be dangerous to our animal. Again, many thanks. Sincerely, |
Review 2 for "Your Puppy 8 Weeks to 8 Months" Dear Ed: My name is Heather rae and I just wanted to send you a great big THANK YOU! I had a GS mix for 13 years and had to have her put to sleep 3 years ago. I recently purchased a beautiful male GSD whom we named Malakai! He is so beautiful and so sweet! (Actually he chose us! LOL) The breeder I purchased him from recommended your web site to us. I first purchased your ebook on house training as well as your Video, Your Puppy 8 weeks... Both were worth every penny! You have such a wealth of information between your web site, DVD's and products you offer! I am an animal lover and it was my dream to have a full breed GSD. I am a single Mom with an 8 year old and a 3 year old and we are all in love with the newest member of our family! I am determined to train our little boy to be a great, well behaved adult GSD! Malakai is learning quickly. I am on your web site at least once a day and it truly is a wealth of information. I wish I lived closer to your kennels so I could meet you and thank you in person. I am looking forward to purchasing your basic dog obedience video next! You truly have been a blessing to us! Heather Rae |
Review 3 for "Your Puppy 8 Weeks to 8 Months" Ed, My family just got a dog for the first time and as first-time owners, we wanted to "get it right" from the start. We purchased your Puppy 8 Weeks to 8 Months video, even though we weren't sure if it would be completely applicable to our 12 week old Cairn. I would like to tell you, we are completely satisfied. We were impressed with the information and how it is presented on the video. Before we watched it, we were enthusiastic owners without direction. Now we feel like we have a plan, and confidence that we're handling our dog the way we should. Thanks, |
Review 4 for "Your Puppy 8 Weeks to 8 Months" Hey Mr. Frawley, I just wanted to say thank you for all the great information you have on your site. I bought your videos Puppies 8 weeks to 8 months and the Basic obedience a few weeks before we got our Chihuahua puppy. I have some dog experience but my husband had never owned one and the videos have been incredible. We have learned so much and Weller at 12 weeks is coming right along with the boundaries you have helped us set. It has also helped us to anticipate what we’ll need to work on next and what expectations we should have at each stage. I constantly refer others to your site and check back myself often to keep learning. You took the time to write me back after initially being unsure if your methods will work for a small dog and I’m so glad you did. I just wanted to let you know how much we appreciate you and your site. You’re awesome! Heidi P |
Review 5 for "Your Puppy 8 Weeks to 8 Months" Dear Mr. Frawley, |
Review 6 for "Your Puppy 8 Weeks to 8 Months" Ed, Thanks for the email yesterday. It seems after a day or two of completely removing my puppy from either the barking or presence of the "Menace" dogs, he has come back to himself! Thanks for your reassuring email as yesterday I was pretty distraught. What I failed to tell you yesterday was that I own most of your videos! This is for anyone who doubts or things that Mr. Frawley's training tactics or methods are cruel. For those who think this: You will be the same people emailing Mr. Frawley with the, "My dog bit my child, my dog bit my neighbor, etc..." As I told you in my previous email, my neighbor's dog's ran out of the house without being told. Due to your videos our previous GSD NEVER, I MEAN NEVER, left the house without the command, "FREE." I could open the door and have all my children and wife leave, and then peg the door open with a rock and leave his sight and he would just sit there. After 10 minutes I would say, "FREE" and he would come out of the house! This was all based on your training tactics! So, again to those of you who are thinking of getting ANY, and you should get MOST of the videos, DO IT!!! They will aid your dog and your family in a VERY pet safe, people safe, dog safe, animal! REGARDLESS OF BREED!!! Again, thanks for the videos!! |
Review 7 for "Your Puppy 8 Weeks to 8 Months" December 4, 2004 Good morning~ My 14-yr old son and I are getting our first puppy on Tuesday. I wanted to thank you for the video. Up until now I had some idea about training from the reading and research I've done. But now that I've seen your video, I have the comfort and confidence level to know we can do it right. Thanks so much and I hope you, your family and loved ones have a wonderful holiday season. Jennifer B |
Review 8 for "Your Puppy 8 Weeks to 8 Months" May 9, 2000 Dear Mr. Frawley, The ball on a string is now her favorite toy. Although I'm not setting any limits in terms of how far we'll train, am not generally planning in going in the protection direction. We live in a Buddhist community, which is quite public. I'm more concerned in getting her to leave our chickens and cats alone. (Read your dog and cats article) I hope that the ball work is providing a fun outlet for her prey drive (it helped her really catch on to retrieving) but don't necessarily want to enhance her prey drive. She has been socializing with the animals since she came at 8 weeks. She is actually quite gentle with them, but does get in a play mode which could I 'm sure develop into something more. Have been hesitant to give a real strong correction with her being young and me not being so experienced (would want to be sure she understands what it is in regard to), although she is quite confident in a healthy way leaning more to the "hard" rather than "soft" character. My pup sees the cats regularly, but they are not living in the same building together. Thanks again for making these videos, any insights into having a German Shepard with chickens would be most appreciated. Sincerely, |
Review 9 for "Your Puppy 8 Weeks to 8 Months" January 30, 1999 Dear Mr. Frawley, Thank again and take care, |
Review 10 for "Your Puppy 8 Weeks to 8 Months" Ed, I thoroughly enjoy your "question and answer" section (you have a great sense of humor) and have found several letters that I would have sworn I had written! I, too, have a very busy puppy who seems to think I am her personal chew toy. My arms are swathed in antibiotic cream these days. I was at my wit's end, but after reading your words and watching your tape, I am now calm, cool and collected. She WILL grow out of this and in the meantime, I can do some positive things to change her habits. I have been getting advice from everyone around me, but I just did not feel that any of it was what I needed. Contrary to the opinion of many others, I am just not of the opinion that continually correcting a young puppy will insure an obedient, happy dog. Your videotape was truly the answer to my prayers. It is so apparent in your tape that you love your dogs and in return, they clearly adore you.You are a true inspiration to watch. Even my husband was impressed and I chuckle when I watch him emulating your style. I plan to order some items, such as the FlexiLead and the
Rake, along with another video. We live in a rural area and I doubt if I could
find these items anywhere locally. Again, you are a lifesaver. Susan H |
Review 11 for "Your Puppy 8 Weeks to 8 Months" Your videos are good, thank you for producing them. After watching #120, I realized I'm being way to hard on that little dog. I bought "how to raise your puppy, new skete Monks, & raising your puppy the natural way, Carol Lee Benjamin. Its hard to read a book & know how to apply it, especially when your not real sure what's going on in the 1st place. Its hard for me to read behavior from a book. Your video is showing me in a way a book cant, what's is puppy behavior. After seeing how the puppy's re-act with you, I can see that my dog is being normal for her age. And for this I want to thank you very very much. I know she's got the potential to be the dog i want, a happy go-lucky, well behaved companion/guardian; she mostly is that way now. i think your videos are going to help me polish a rough diamond, so to speak. Thank you, the order was shipped correctly, & the videos & the
material on them are excellent. |
Review 12 for "Your Puppy 8 Weeks to 8 Months" Ed: Your video has taught me more in two days than I've ever learned in a lifetime about dog training. You can teach an old dog new tricks. You've taught this old dog that for years I've been using the wrong approach on my pups. I'm not professional trainer or breeder, just a dog lover and I've have several dogs over my lifetime, none have been easier to train than Irish and thanks to you and your video we're on the road to success. Thanks Ed, Keep up the good work. |
Review 13 for "Your Puppy 8 Weeks to 8 Months" Good Afternoon Mr. Frawley, Well its needless to say I enjoyed every minutes of your 8 weeks to 8 months puppy training video. I know, and have the proof that your video works superbly well. Just wanted to display my gratitude and congratulate you on a super job. Sincerely yours, |
Review 14 for "Your Puppy 8 Weeks to 8 Months" Dear Ed, Thanks and best wishes, |
Review 15 for "Your Puppy 8 Weeks to 8 Months" Less than 1 week ago I ordered the video Your Puppy -- 8 Weeks to 8 Months. The production quality as well as the content is outstanding. 3 days after I watched the video for the first time my puppy, a male black lab about 2.5 months old, is living happily ever after thanks to the extremely useful information found in the video. If I was an official movie critic, I would give it a 4 thumbs up. Im awaiting my order of the Basic Obedience Training video. As soon as it gets here I plan on starting some training. I will send you a further update when I get the video. Sincerely, |
Review 16 for "Your Puppy 8 Weeks to 8 Months" Some time ago I purchased "Your Puppy 8 Week to 8 Month" video, before I even bought a dog. I recently married and moved into a great 3 bedroom home. My husband and I have purchased an 8 week old full-blood beagle puppy. Gorgeous little girl we named Pixie. We greatly appreciate your video and the wonderful tips you shared. She already is responding to the "Far enough" command while on a leash, as well as going "Outside" since her second day with us. She sleeps quietly in her crate all night and is a wonderful, mouthy, energetic, well-adjusted puppy. The patience, and guidelines you showed in the video were of great help for my husband and I, giving us a starting point for working with her CONSISTENTLY. So we are both using the same commands, and both have the same expectations for Pixie. Just wanted to say THANK YOU for helping us get her off to a good start! We will soon be purchasing Basic Obedience videos. I wondered what videos you would recommend
for teaching tracking/Search and rescue. We would like to develop those "God-given" instincts
and drives that this pup has. She already tracks us from room to room, as well
as tracking the cat whenever she leaves the room! So beautiful to see. Blessings, |
Review 17 for "Your Puppy 8 Weeks to 8 Months" Dear Mr. Frawley, I have always been scared of large dogs, and if I had not watched your video,
I would have handled the situation very differently, and Lucy and I would have
gotten hurt or worse! Thank you for a video that is loaded with USEFUL information
for the first time puppy owner. |
Review 18 for "Your Puppy 8 Weeks to 8 Months" Mr. Frawley, I wrote you last week about my 3 mo. old GS puppy, Abby, who did nothing but bite every time I touched her ...petting, putting the leash on or off. etc. I tried everything you suggested and it didn't help at all....she just would not listen to NO or NO BITE and any kind of correction would not stop the biting or jumping on the couch and grabbing the sofa pillows. You said I should get the puppy prong collar and it came in late yesterday. I started using it this morning and I can't believe the difference it has already made. I can pet her and put the leash on, and lo and behold! no bites...just licks my hands. If she acts like she wants to bite I say NO BITE and she doesn't! I have only corrected her twice with the prong collar ...maybe level 4... and she's already like a different puppy. She even minds when I tell her NO when she starts to jump on the couch and I haven't corrected with the prong collar for that yet...just the biting. I can't thank you enough for your help ...I think I'm on my way to having a very good pet. I have your Puppy 8 Weeks to 8 Months DVD and have ordered your Basic Dog Training DVD. I plan to train Abby as well as I possibly can (with your training techniques) to be a well mannered, obedient, loving and happy dog. Thank you again for your help and guidance. Jean |
Review 19 for "Your Puppy 8 Weeks to 8 Months" Your video "Your Puppy 8 Weeks to 8 Months" has helped me more than anything. Far better than the puppy training class I enrolled in and quit because of aggressive dogs in the class. Also the leash they sold me broke and my dog went loose. Thankfully I had a treat ready and he came to me/grabbed him by the scruff. Funny feeling about that class/instructor from the get-go. Anyway I am not going back. Your videos/web site/resources are what I am going to follow. Thank you for making this info available. You are a Godsend. I wish I could meet you. I have a 4-month old yellow lab. Beautiful puppy, smart, wonderful, a bit on the dominant side, which I like but I need to be trained. Because I would like to train him for obedience and agility, maybe even search and rescue, if he has the right temperament, etc. So much looking forward to the videos/toys/equipment I have ordered. Again, thank you. |
Review 20 for "Your Puppy 8 Weeks to 8 Months" I just whelped my first litter of GSD's (European confirmation) and wanted to thank you for your whelping DVD. She had 9 all survived, thanks to your DVD I was able to save two that were not breathing. I would not have known what to do if not for your wonderful advice. Paula K |
Review 21 for "Your Puppy 8 Weeks to 8 Months" Thanks so much! Your Puppy DVD was informative and I have been amazed at how much more smoothly things are going than what I've experienced in the past. The thing that is taking the most effort for me is to train my children how to do and say what I'm saying and not confuse the dog.(Like ignoring the dog when she's in her crate!) I am hoping that in the end I will have a well-trained lab as well as better trained children. Thanks for your help! Melissa |
Review 22 for "Your Puppy 8 Weeks to 8 Months" Hi Ed, We ordered your puppy DVD after having our (biting) GSD puppy for three weeks, and I just watched it yesterday after it arrived. I have yet to see a more comprehensive collection of basic information on handling puppies – thank you very much for producing it and making this DVD available! It is helping us tremendously. Thanks again, |
Review 23 for "Your Puppy 8 Weeks to 8 Months" My husband and I got your 8 weeks to 8 months video and have used your training techniques. They work so well and he is so obedient (at least the most that he can be at 5 and a half months old). I just have to laugh when I see people at PetSmart and in the park trying to get their dogs to sit or down and give up because of their frustration. You really made it easy for us and we look forward to getting your other training videos when the time comes. Thank you, |
Review 24 for "Your Puppy 8 Weeks to 8 Months" After purchasing your DVD's "Basic dog obedience" and "Your puppy: 8 weeks to 8 months" I must say I was extremely impressed. They are the best visual dog training tools that I have seen. I enjoyed them so much I recommended they be purchased for our public library system (Hamilton Public Library, Hamilton, Ontario). It looks like they purchased 2 copies of each. When I was an anxiety ridden first time dog owner over 11 years ago (you want to do everything right) I sure could have used them. Max, my standard poodle, turned out pretty great despite my blunders though, he's just that kind of dog. Anyway, I wanted other dog owners to have the opportunity to access these DVD's as a teaching tool, and perhaps check out your web site and the excellent articles there. That's why I recommended they be purchased. And I'll keep buying more for myself as well. Just thought you would like to know, |
Review 25 for "Your Puppy 8 Weeks to 8 Months" I recently purchased your 8 week to 8 month puppy video. Wow. It was worth every penny. It is a pleasure to see someone as dedicated as you are to german shepherds, to share your advice with others. I plan on ordering more of your videos, and products. Kyle |
Review 26 for "Your Puppy 8 Weeks to 8 Months" I emailed you a few weeks ago and you were kind enough to give us some pointers. Since that time we have purchased and viewed your puppy DVD as we have a 4 month old French bulldog. We totally changed our way of thinking after viewing your DVD. He was crated a great deal of the time for the last 3 weeks and on leash in the house any time he was out of the crate. We have the kids give him treats after going outside and I am the primary caregiver. He has since stopped growling and lashing at the kids and has become very submissive. He still is obsessed with the cats, but I realize that will take time (a long time!) When we received your DVD we couldn’t wait to watch it, boy things sure have changed since I was a kid. Thanks so much, |
Review 27 for "Your Puppy 8 Weeks to 8 Months" Hi Ed, In the last couple of weeks I've ordered two DVD's, a wire
basket muzzle for
our stud dog, and a snap-lock collar and drag-line for my personal pup.
I am SO IMPRESSED with the quality of everything! As much as I hate to
spend
money, I look forward to buying more stuff! Just wanted to let you know;
THANKS!! |

Question on Walking with a Puppy:
Mr. Frawley,
I watched the two DVD's and they were great. However, I don't know if i'm
being to hard on my pup. The problem is that when we go for walks, though
he doesn't
usually do his squat routine anymore (if he does he gets a small pop, and will
come) but now he has become more aware of his surroundings and gets very distracted
wanting to play in people's front yards, running into flower beds, eating acorns,
picking up sticks etc. so i have to constantly get him to come with small pops.
I know he is just being a "normal" puppy, being very curious, so
do i let him investigate and then give him a small pop after telling him to
come, or don't even give him the opportunity to stick his nose where is doesn't
belong. Curiously enough, when other dogs bark at him, its as if he doesn't
even know they are there. I have been walking in the middle of the street,
but he pulls the side and again must give him a pop. He is only 10 weeks old,
but very strong, so it feels like i'm being to hard on him.
He is getting very mouthy, and sometimes will not stop (especially loves
grabbing onto my shorts) despite being offered a better toy. When i give
him a tug
on the back of the neck, i often have to very hard to get him to quit what
he's doing and chew on another toy. He's great with other people, has no shyness
issues at all. I want to introduce him to my friends siberian husky, who is
very sweet, and very soft, so i don't anticipate any problems. You think that's
a good idea? He's coming along on the crate, though he is hesitant to get in
and sometimes i just need to pick him up, put him in, give him something to
munch on, and give him a "good crate" and leave.
i have been reading your site non-stop, (often neglecting my school work)!.
I realize now that this may not have been the best time to get a pup, but i'm
knee deep now, and i already consider him part of my family so there is no
turning back.
Thank you for your time again and i will probably be placing an order for some
toys next week.
best regards,
miguel b
P.S. Yesterday i was walking Toby with my fiance, and
a husky looking dog, just sitting on the stoop of his house (i'm amazed at
how many dogs are unleashed, unfenced, or unsupervised, i even saw an unsupervised
american bulldog just laying on his front yard!) came running out, growling ....I
started walking fast towards him and yelled at him, and to my surprise, he
whimpered away!
Answer:
What we do is keep our bait bag on us when we walk our pup. If I have to call him away from something I will automatically give him a treat. This is especially important after a pop on the leash. Then coming to you is a positive thing.
When pups bite like this it's important to remain clam. If you have to take hold of the pup by the jowls on the side of his face and quietly, calmly holding him up off the ground while you look into his eyes until he submits you will see a change. This is not a correction –it's simply holding him until he calms down. I demonstrate this with a couple of HIGH DRIVE pups in my DVD on Dealing with Dominant and Aggressive Dogs.
If you walk in an area where there are off leash dogs – carry a stout walking stick and be prepared to use it. If you are forced to use it to keep a dog away from your dog – remember that one good correction is worth 100 nagging ones. If the owner calls authorities – tell them the dog was off leash and you felt he was going to bite you.
Question on Puppy Training DVD:
Hi Ed,
I have a 3 yr. old, female, Golden Retriever. When she was 5 months old we
took her to a basic obedience class. The trainers came highly recommended in
our area. The first thing they did, every lesson, was to let the puppies run
free in the training area for 10 minutes. This was called "socialization
time". My dog was one of the smallest in the class, and was constantly
pinned into corners. She was submissive to begin with, but this "training" has
made her VERY afraid of other dogs. When I spoke to the trainers about my fears,
they told me this was normal and that she would outgrow her fears. To date,
that has not happened, and in fact, has gotten worse. I really want to help
her, but am not sure what course of action to take. In addition to her training
experience, she was mauled by a much larger dog in a campsite about 2 years
ago.
Any help would be much appreciated. I have seen your videos and truly respect
your opinions and suggestions. I really would like Aquila not to be so afraid.
Ed's Answer:
This is a common practice and one I have never agreed with - for the very reason you explain here. It demonstrates a complete lack of understanding of pack and rank drive. These people do not understand that once a soft puppy is attacked it has a life long effect on a dog.
So if you have the toughest little puppy on the block this is a great idea because he will go to these classes and kick butt - it will make him stronger. But for the rest of the dogs it is a sad situation.
All you can do is control the environment you allow your dog to be in. No DOG PARKS - read my article on why. No strange dogs near your dog. It's YOUR JOB to protect your dog. If a strange dog comes near your dog - drive him away from your dog. If necessary carry a walking stick or pepper gas. Your dog expects you to act like a pack leader and a pack leader protects the pack.
Question:
Hello Ed
I have you 8 weeks to 8 month and the Basic Obedience Video as well as other videos I bought in the past.
I have a quick question though…my puppy is going to be 18 weeks old and he is very “Food Driven.” I am training him as per your videos rewarding him right at the moment he performs the action, but I see a huge difference in how he follows the “Sit” “Come” and “Down” commands when I don’t have a biscuit to reward him. He quickly knows if I have or not a treat for him.
Will I have to correct that at an older age with the prone collar?
Regards,
Andres
Ed's Response:
Once a dog reaches this age (18 weeks) you can start to add time to the exercise before the reward is given.
This means you have a MARKER – probably GOOD when you give the reward. When GOOD is said and the reward is given the exercise is finished.
You can add a second word like “THAT’S RIGHT” to add time before the “GOOD” is given. If the dog gets up you simply say “Nope” and no food and no correction. Simply repeat the exercise. The process usually starts by only extending for a few seconds but builds on experience. The goal is not to extend through correction but extend through teaching the dog what he must do to get his reward. They do pick up on this as long as the dog has good food drive, your are consistent and you don’t add too much pressure.
Simply say “nope” and turn away and have him do it again. Keep the sessions short.
Hope this helps.
Kind Regards,
Ed Frawley
Question:
Hello,
I am hoping you could help me. We have a puppy that's about 14 weeks old that is extremely aggressive. This morning he charged on to my bed while I was sleeping and bit me in the face. He has bitten 3 of my children in the face unprovoked as well. He has displayed major aggression of baring his teeth and attacking my children unprovoked. We have tried every discipline method we have seen and it has not been of any help. We would appreciate any help or advice you can give us, we are afraid that the will seriously injure a child.
Stacee
Ed's Response:
This biting is not dominance aggression – if you read the free eBook I wrote on THE THOERY OF CORRECTION IN DOG TRAINING you will learn why puppies do this. My web site has a large number of FREE eBooks that I have written. Go to the main directory for eBooks.
I would recommend that you get my DVD – YOUR PUPPY 8 WEEKS to 8 MONTHS. There is an excellent section this the DVD to show exactly how to handle pups like this.
Kind Regards,
Ed Frawley
Question:
I have a nine week old Rottweiler that when I take him potty will eat rocks and dirt. I live in Arizona and avoiding them is not an option. Please help.
Charles
PS. I ordered your DVD 8 weeks to 8 months today. Thanks for a great website!
Answer:
In the DVD I show and explain how to teach your pup the meaning of the YUCK command. Which means spitting out anything in his mouth – this can kill your dog or could cause a serious operation with a blocked bowl so it’s a no screw around thing.
You may have to get a small prong collar for this work (we sell them)
There are really only two things I correct a puppy for – not spitting something when told and not coming when called (but I seldom have to use the second because my pups are NEVER OFF LEASH – this is especially important for dogs that eat rocks.
They do outgrow it but until then they either need to be on leash or have a remote collar on them to enforce the We teach our puppies the meaning of the word YUCK. This means when a pup picks up something we don’t want we give it a YOUCK command and a pop on a leash. The pop needs to be hard enough that it spits out what it has in his or her mouth.
If this works and the dog spits the item with a flat collar correction then that’s fine. Some pups need a small prong collar. So it takes a little experimenting.
There are only two commands that we use a correction on with our pups – those are the YUCK command and when the pup does not come when called (after being trained) That’s because refusing to mind both of these commands can result in the dog being killed.
Thanks for the business.
